‘I am a full-fledged Hearts fan’ – Berekum Chelsea midfielder Stephen Amankona

Berekum Chelsea attacking midfielder, Stephen Amankona, has openly declared his unflinching love for Accra-based Hearts of Oak and his willingness to join the club if an opportunity avail itself.

In an era where players try as hard as they can to conceal their club preference for the two biggest clubs in the country – Hearts and Kotoko, solely because of obscure rivalry between them, Amankona, has however defied all odds to boldly profess love for the Phobians and how deep his connection to the club has been.

“I have supported Hearts of Oak since childhood,” Amankona told Berekum-based Shalom FM.

When asked if he will welcome a move to his darling club in the foreseeable future, he responded by saying;

“Everything is down to the management. I can’t force my way out of the club.

“Apart from me all my family members also support Hearts, and it hurt me a lot whenever they lose a game.

“This doesn’t take away the fact that I will play it soft when we [Berekum Chelsea] meet them in any competition.

“I remember helping Chelsea to defeat them 3-1 in Berekum sometime ago and I played a key role in that match.

The 20-year-old signed a three-year deal with Hungarian outfit MTK Budapest FC last year but surprisingly joined the Bibires prior to the suspended 2019/2020 league season.

Chelsea are second on the league table with 26 points after 15 matches.
