Ghanaian defender Amankwah Akurugu Koffi marks La Liga debut for Getafe in defeat to Barcelona

Ghanaian teenager Amankwaa Akurugu Kofi made his La Liga debut coming on as a second half substitute for Getafe following their 2-5 humiliation to Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Thursday.

At the end of the first half, Getafe were down by three goals to one following a brace from Lionel Messi and an own goal from Morrocan defender Sofian Chakla before Getafe grabbed a consolation through Clement Linglet who also scored from an own goal.

Meanwhile, Akurugu joined the action a minute after recess replacing Spaniard Marc Cucurella Saseta.

Amankwaa’s introduction was greatly felt after a couple of great tackles and interceptions.

Substitute Enes Unal who replaced veteran forward Angel Rodriguez scored from a spot kick after he was soiled in the box by Barcelona’s Araujo.

The Turkish made no mistake as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to reduce the deficit to   2-3 in the 69th minute.

However, all hopes died in the dying embers of the game as two late goals from Ronald Aroujo and Antoine Griezman sealed a comfortable victory for the Catalans which are steadily closing the gap on leaders Atletico Madrid to five points with a game at hand.

The Ghanaian left back already made 16 appearances for the team ‘B’ before his promotion to the senior side following his splendid display.

Compatriot Sabit Abdulai was also joined the action in the second half.
