Fianoo retained as Ghalca boss

Executive Director of Ghana Premier League side, Accra Great Olympics, Mr Kudjoe Fianoo has retained his position as chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) at yesterday’s elective congress held at Accra Sports Stadium

Fianoo won his seat after polling 71 votes out of 113 votes to beat his competitor and former vice chairman of the association, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, who garnered 42 votes.

In his victory speech, Fianoo thanked members for the  overwhelming endorsement and pledged to lead the new administration to embark on a review of the association’s constitution in the bid to change the face of Ghana football and the clubs as well.

“My executives will work to satisfy you, not to disappoint. We are playing football at a time the whole world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic; we need to dig deep into our reservoir to deliver and satisfy our members, and that is exactly what we will do.”

Former vice-chairman of the association, Alex Ackumey failed in his bid to retain his seat as he lost by 47 votes to 66 by Dwarfs representative, John Kofi Ansah.

Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Professionals Football Club,Madam Linda Ansong, garnered 90 votes to defeat Justice Boison to the treasurer position.

Asante Kotoko stalwart, Edmund Ackah rode on the ticket of Inter Allies FCjoined George Ofosuhene of the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) with 91 and 64 votes respectively to serve as Premier League representative on the GHALCA Executive Council.

Chief Executive Officer of Danbort FC, Eugene Noble Noel amassed 58 votes to beat Felix Bewu of Heart of Lions who had 54 votes to represent the Division One League (DOL).

Emmanuel Opoku Abrokwah was elected onto the Executive Council as Division Two representative after polling 54 votes to beat both Vincent Boateng and Eugene Jacquaye who had 44 and 14 votes respectively.

The election for the Women’s ex officio member on the Executive Council was deferred to the incoming Council to decide on after two rounds of voting failed to get a winner among Edna Quagraine and Anita Wiredu.
