Hearts of Oak head coach Kostadinov Papic has revealed to that media that his current 2020/21 squad is stronger than the team he trained in 2008 during his maiden appointment.
Papic was first hired by the Phobian club in 2008 but was shown the exit in the second round of the Ghana Premier League after failing to record a single win. Hearts subsequently went ahead to claim the league trophy in a close contest against their eternal rivals Asante Kotoko – marking the last time they won a league trophy in the country.
Hearts has been showing glimpses of a team in it’s perfect form after thrashing league leaders Bechem United 6-1 on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
However, Papic, who claims he is not comparing the two squads, he feels his current team is stronger than what he handled in 2008.
“I coached the team from 2008-2009 and I think this one is stronger but it was a different situation during that period and now,” Papic told Kumasi FM.
“I’m not necessarily comparing the two teams. Everything has it’s own strength and weakness but the most important thing now is that my players are improving, moving forward and playing better football,” he added.
Hearts next league game is against Elmina Sharks on match day 8.
