The last meeting between both sides ended in a 1-0 win for Berekum Chelsea against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in 2019.
But the scoreline this evening at the Berekum City Park was heartbreaking when Chelsea got the late equaliser to deny Kotoko their first win after Match Day 2 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
‘Pressured’ Kotoko were the side to come close through Kwame Opoku but he was denied by goalkeeper Samuel Adjei.
Opoku finally grabbed the much awaited goal in the 19th when he tapped in from close range to give visitors Kotoko a well deserved lead.
The home side gradually warmed themselves into the game with a decent strike from Richard Kissi Boateng but was well saved by goalkeeper Felix Annan as the Porcupine Warriors went into the first half break with a goal advantage.
Back from recess, the home side started pressing for the equaliser on a good note.
The introduction of Jordan Opoku and Emmanuel Clottey posed more threat posed more threat for Kotoko.
Annan to the rescue again to deny Chelsea before he was replaced by Kwame Baah following an injury.
With a minute to full time inside the extra time, substitute Clottey scored from a freekick to put Chelsea on level term.
The game ended 1-1 with a point each for both sides.
