The impressive display against Asante Kotoko on their opening 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League (GPL) opening fixture attracted a lot of talking points throughout the media – prompting people to take a second look at Ignatius Osei-Fosu-led Eleven Wonders.
The Techiman-based club will host Ebusua Dwarfs at the Ohene Ameyaw Park on match day 2.
The match has failed to attract a lot of attention and the necessary media hype on radio and many might be aware of a GPL match on Friday which is through no fault of theirs all because of the back-and-forth tussle between Asante Kotoko, the GFA and broadcasting rights holder StarTimes.
Nonetheless, the game promises to be a crunch encounter as their last season’s meeting ended 1-1 at the same venue.
Wonders is favourite and is tipped to carry the day because of how they held Kotoko to their game and wrested them down to pick a point from their own backyard – a performance largely attributed to the tactical brains of head coach Osei-Fosu.
Dwarfs, on the hand, did not fare well in the truncated league and has not started well either – drawing 2-2 with regional rivals Elmina Sharks at the Cape Coast Stadium – a game which took a last-minute brilliance of their goalkeeper Razak Issah to salvage a point for them.
The tie looks more difficult for Dwarfs from a statistical standpoint although there is always a first time – failing to pick a single win in their last five (5) away matches – losing three (3) and drawing two (2), conceding five (5) and scoring just one (1).
On the contrary, Eleven Wonders has managed to amassed eight points from a possible 15 in their last five (5) home games – winning two (2), drawing two (2) and losing one (1), scoring five (5) and conceding six (6) in that process.
Aside last season’s encounter, both teams met in 2018 and it did not auger well for ‘Crabs’ as they lost 2-0 and subsequently had their midfielder Mustapha Alhaji sent-off in the second half.
Dwarfs have had their internal and external problems, and it is such that led them to be cleared to feature in the GPL last-minute after threats of liquidation nearly prevented them from honouring this year’s league.
Their counterparts, Eleven Wonders, looks to be on an impressive learning trajectory and could prove a tough customer for any Premier League club. The more reason why a draw for the visiting team could a morale booster for them.
But no one knows since the game of football has its own way of throwing surprises around, especially in this era of Covid-19 where fans are not allowed into the various match venues.
The match is scheduled at 3 pm and will be live on StarTimes decoder – the official rights holder to broadcast the GPL.
