Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso won his first silverware with Jiangsu Suning in their 2-1 away win over Guangzhou FC in the Chinese Super League play-off final on Thursday.
History was made at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium as goals from Eder Martins and Brazilian Alex Teixeira propelled Jiangsu Suning to their first ever top flight trophy after coming close in 2012 and 2016 as runners-up.
The defensive midfielder was in action in their first leg which ended goalless and was very instrumental for his side where he lasted the entire duration in their narrow win over eight-time champions Evergrande.
Wakaso made 18 appearances for the Chinese based side since he joined in January 2020 and has made oe assist.
He was invited by Coach Akonnor ahead of the AFCON double-header with Sudan but was not available due to the play-off final.
However, the former Alaves player is expected to join the team ahead of the return fixture in Omdurman on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
