CAF Champions League: Two Egyptian elephants square off with two Casablanca giants



A moment like this hardly happens as far as African club football is concerned.

This time around football lovers especially to those who pay huge attention to the African game would get something meaningful to talk about.

The Media houses, bloggers and websites managers will enrich their portals with news all full of drama, anxieties and happiness in the next two to three weeks thanks to the Caf Champions League.

The two Egyptian big wings, Al-Ahly S.C. and Zamalek S.C. will make a trip to Morocco to battle it out against two Casablanca giants Wydad Athletic club and Raja Casablanca in the first leg of the 2019/2020 African most prestigious club competition the Caf Champions League.

Some soccer pundits who are ardent followers of the game have touted this stage or round to be one of the best champions league semi-final with the two power houses involved.

For the first time in the history of Caf club football, the football fraternity will witness one of grand finale games which is unusual to many Africans but it is also one key decision  stakeholders in the game have embraced and have lauded the continent mother body CAF for such a prudent step.

The controversies which always surround the home and away final games always raises a lot  of eye browse about the fairness of the game.

Clubs mostly make sure that when they gets the chance to play the first leg of the grand finale home, then they certainly have to finished the game in their respective grounds in other for the second tie to be a mere formality for them when they are to play as a guest and the treatment the away teams goes through is always a hell.

But we always make sure that the positive news which surrounds the competition should and must be  excelled to the outside world in order to  create a well meaningful image for our product.


* Among the four semi finalists, there are a total of 18 Caf Champions league trophies between them. Al-Ahly who are the all time champions have won it record of 8 times Zamalek S.C. have won it 5 times Raja Casablanca 3 times and their arch-rivals Wydad Casablanca 2 times.

* Among the four semi finalists, Al-Ahly and Raja Casablanca are the only sides who are managed by Africans namely Pitso Mosimane and Jamal Sellami.

*Pitso Mosimane and Jamal Sellami are the only managers among the four who have won the Caf Champions league before.

*Jamal Sellami is the only manager among the four to have graced the Caf Champions league as a footballer and went ahead to win it in 1997 against Ghana’s Ashanti Gold S.C. when the competition was branded officially as CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

* Ahead of their semifinal clash vrs Al-Ahly, Morocco Wydad Casablanca’s last champions league triumph was against all time champions Al-Ahly in 2017.

* Zamalek’s last champions league trophy was against their upcoming opponent in the semifinals Raja Casablanca in 2002.
