‘I couldn’t sleep the night before the move’ – Thomas Partey

New signing for North London club Arsenal FC, Thomas Partey, has revealed in his first official interview with the club he barely slept before his move to the club during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners activated Partey’s release clause of £45m (€50m) on transfer deadline day after a back and forth negotiations that stretched throughout the transfer window with his former club Atletico Madrid.

“Well, until the last moment I was not aware,” Partey told Arsenal.com.

“My agent called me and said it was going to happen, and I was so happy. I could not even sleep that night – it was a great feeling.

“I was so happy, I was excited. I was not even here yet and [the fans] we’re crazy over me, they wanted me to join the club. I receive a lot of messages saying, ‘Join the club or we are not sleeping!’ – it was a great feeling.”

The 27-year-old, after a stellar performance with the Black Stars especially in their international friendly against Qatar on Monday, will officially start training with the remaining squad on Wednesday at the club’s training grounds.

He has been handed the number 18 jersey and is likely to make his debut on Saturday as the Gunners takes on Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.
