Orlando Pirates are set to announce the signing of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori after Maritzburg United accepted an offer for his services.
Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that he has accepted an offer from Pirates for the Ghanaian.
One of the longest-running transfer sagas of 2020, which began even before the 2019/20 season was interrupted by lockdown, is now finally set to reach its conclusion.
“I can now confirm that we’ve allowed Orlando Pirates to begin talks with Richard Ofori,” Kadodia told the media on Tuesday.”
“Once the deal is concluded they will make an announcement.”
There was also talk of Tebogo Tlolane being part of Ofori’s move but Kadodia says the midfielder will return on loan in two days’ time and is not part of the deal.
“Tlolane will return to us on loan and it’s a different deal from what Ofori is currently negotiating with Pirates,” Kadodia explained.
“Richard still had one year left on his contract with us, so it’s not the same.”
Strangely, Pirates did not confirm Tlolane’s return to Durban on Tuesday when they announced that Mthokozisi Dube, Gladwin Shitolo and Justice Chabalala would be spending the 2020/21 season out on loan.
