‘I am ready to hugely invest in football’ – ‘Chairman Wontumi’

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako, who is affectionately called ‘Chairman Wontumi’ in the political scene, has revealed he is ready to shift his business focus to sports and hugely invest in football.

This is a piece of refreshing news to hear especially when investors are shying away from the sporting field mainly of a 2018 exposé from ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in Ghana football.

Investing in football demands huge capital injection with proper planning, logistics and employment of administrators with the technical know-how.

Speaking on his radio station, the business mogul and philanthropist said he is ready to bear every cost that comes with it.

“I am ready to hugely invest in football,” Bosiako said.

“I am a businessman and ready to do more for our football.

“If I am to become the CEO of a club, I will make sure I will buy quality players with skills and intelligence but not below 6.4 feet,” he added.

When asked if his lack of football knowledge could lead him to fail miserably, he responded by saying;

“Silvio Berlusconi never played football but he was able to win a lot of titles for AC Milan.

“It’s about time we give our football clubs to men with affluence, charisma and swag like myself, Dr Ofori Sarpong, Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Osei Kwame Despite to run. These people will make our football attractive again,” he started.

However, the NPP regional chairman hinted negotiations to take over Medeama SC is in the offing and will announce his presence in local football.
