Asante Kotoko sit top of the League after defeating Karela 1-0 on Match Day 13 at the Akoon Park on Friday.
William Opoku Mensah’s solitary strike in the 2nd minute made the difference for the Porcupine Warriors.
He put the visitors in front after feeding perfectly on Emmanuel Gyamfi’s pass.
The hosts were quick to create chances in search of the equaliser but failed to capitalise despite the dominance.
A fairly balanced game after the goal but Karela came close again through Diawise Taylor and Kwame Boateng but their efforts went wide on the 10th and 16th minutes respectively.
Goalkeeper Kwame Baah put up a superb save to deny Diawise Taylor on the 33rd minute.
In the dying embers of the game, Emmanuel Keyekeh saw his free kick missed narrowly as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Kotoko.
Mudasiru Salifu and Songne Yacouba for Augustine Okrah and William Opoku Mensah in the second half as Kotoko made substitutions.
Karela grew much more stronger in the second half but their efforts failed to pay off.
Substitute Songne Yacouba saw his first touch grabbed with ease by goalkeeper Tijani Ahmed on the 75th minute.
Goalkeeper Kwame Baah continued with his impressive saves to deny the forward line of Karela United as Kotoko held on to William Opoku Mensah’s early strike to grab all three points.
