Black Stars all-time leading striker Asamoah Gyan who made the the final squad for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt under former Coach Kwesi Appaih failed to make the cut under Coach CK Akonnor ahead of the double header AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.
Gyan, 34, who had a bright start with NorthEast United in the Indian League scoring 4 times in 8 games has been sidelined for some few weeks now and currently in Ghana.
Coach CK Akonnor today at the Accra City Hotel took time to address the press after his European tour where he officially announced his 23 players as they prepare for the double encounter with Sudan.
Addressing the press on captaincy issues,
He lamented “Asamoah Gyan is still the General Captain of the side and Andrew Ayew remains the captain of the side, I personally met and spoke to him (Gyan) about his plans for the Black Stars, but he gladly told me that he is not ready and fit now for the Black Stars and I respect his decision”.
“Gyan is always welcomed once he is fit. He is one of the most experienced players the team can boast of”.
He further stated.
Ghana will host Sudan in the first leg encounter at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on March 27 and will face off in the return leg three days time in the capital Omdurman.
