There is a brewing tension at the camp of Hearts of Oak concerning the recent performance of their care-taker coach Edward Nii Odoom– as supporters have began making rallying call for his head ahead of their tie against Karela United at the Akoon Park.
Odoom has been in charge of the club since the sacking of Kim Grant as early into the season after match day 1 following a 0-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea.
Though the Phobians performance isn’t something one can describe as top-notch, many can testify to the fact that Nii Odoom has held onto the fort very well at the club, looking very strong especially In their away matches despite a purple-patch display from the rainbow boys at home.
They travel to Tarkwa to face Karela – another side who also share similar story with the Phobians in terms of results, and a venue where they lost 3-0 to Medeama SC on day 2.
The Karela we all knew from last year during the truncated league isn’t the side we are witnessing in this season ‘s league.
Many believe it is the departure of their head coach Johnson Smith who has joined the Porcupine Warriors last year being the major cause to their bad results churned out of late.
Karela and Hearts have met once in the league and that was in 2018 at the Camp Park in Aiyinaase where substitute William Opoku scored a hat-trick to power his side to a 3-1 win at home.
Aside that, they met twice in the Normalisation Committee Special Competition where both teams won 1-0 during their home game.
In the on-going league, Karela have managed to record two (2) wins at home, two (2) draws and a defeat in their last five (5) games. They have scored seven (7) and conceded four (4).
Hearts, on the other hand, have picked eight points from a possible 15 in their last five (5) away matches – recording two (2) victories, two (2) draws and a defeat, scoring three (3) and conceding four (4).
Generally, Karela have picked just a win and suffered three (3) defeats in their five matches both home and away.
This shows how undulating their performance have been this season.
A defeat for either side will cause a massive stir at their respective club. Enos Adepah, the head coach of Karela, has come under a series of criticisms from the supporters following their recent run of poor results.
While Odoom could be at the receiving end for Hearts if things doesn’t go well at the Akoon Park, though rumours making round suggest the club have began courting King Faisal head coach and it’s likely he could join them mid-way through the season.
