Many people call them the ‘musical club’ – but nonetheless Legon Cities’ contribution to the mantra ‘Bring Back the Love’ has immensely pushed many football to the Accra Sports Stadium during their home games, especially females – a fact no one can deny when top artist grace their match days.
On a special Valentine’s Day, the Royals will square it out with the Wonder club – Great Olympics at the nations Wembley – hoping to claim all the bragging rights.
The social media banter between the two clubs especially on twitter this week is one to savour – as shades have been thrown at each almost everyday.
The genesis of this whole thing was when Olympics tweeted ‘not all glitters is gold’ – casting slur at Cities following their 1-3 defeat to Asante Kotoko in week.
This has since ignited some form of a give-and-take between the two clubs as Legon Cities promised to put ‘Oly Dade’ club to the sword come week 10.
The Royals, despite their huge entourage and their near-prefect branding haven’t fared well on the pitch – picking just two wins out of nine – with those victories coming against Elmina Sharks and Bechem United, lost three (3) and drawn four (4).
Olympics, on the other hand, have suffered five (5) defeats after nine games – picking three (3) wins a drawn game against Elmina Sharks in Cape Coast.
Both teams have 10 points each but Olympics superior goal advantage places them on the 13th spot with Cities occupying the 15th position.
Head coach for Cities Goran Barjaktarevic has said he feels no pressure despite the poor run of results but believes Olympics is among one of the oldest and popular clubs in Ghana hence a 50-50 chance for both teams come Friday night.
The last four matches between the two teams have ended in two wins for each side – with three goals scored for and against.
The form of both teams haven’t been encouraging since the start of the league but an entertaining night coupled with football and music awaits the football fraternity as hip-life singer Wendy Shay takes centre stage to entertain fans on a cozy-hazy special valentine harmattan night.
The match kick-start at 7 pm and there is going to be free chocolate for everyone.
