The unveiling of Ghanaian international Alfred Duncan, has revealed his long time eagerness to play Florence-based Fiorentina during his unveiling on Thursday.
Alfred, 26, joined the Purple One during the January transfer window for €15m from Sassualo but had to delay his debut due to a niggling knee injury.
The former Inter Milan youth player was unveiled to the media, where he revealed his long time admiration for the club.
“I have been dreaming of playing for Fiorentina for the past four years. It is a strong team. It is great to be united with Ceccherini and Benassi,” he told the media during his unveiling.
“The [Fiorentina] team is strong with great lads who are helping me integrate. I feel good on the pitch, thanks to my teammates and the coach.
“Fiorentina as a club has everything a player wishes. It’s a strong club [with] great fans. The fans can make a difference, as well as helping the club achieve great things.”
The former Sampdoria midfielder explained why he chose jersey number 88 instead of the 8 he wears at Sassualo.
The jersey is taken by 22-year-old Gaetano Castrovilli who has three goals from 21 appearance.
“I had number ‘8’ at Sassualo but here there’s already a very strong player wearing that number. I feel I have improved, so I chose twice the number, which is 88.”
Duncan is likely to make his debut on Sunday against his former club Sampdoria if head coach Giuseppe Iachini deems him fit before the game.
